We are pleased to invite you to the opening of 25 Years of the “Dimitrije Bašičević Mangelos” Award, a group exhibition featuring the work of Saša Tkačenko, on view at the Gallery of the Faculty of Fine Arts (FLU) and the Akademija Club on Knez Mihailova Street in Belgrade.

On view: September 4 – 30, 2026
Curated by: Ivana Bašičević Antić, Miroslav Karić

Marking a quarter-century of the Award, the exhibition brings together a reflection on its significance and contribution to Serbia’s art scene, with a focus on the practices of the artists who have received it. It offers twenty-five different answers to the same question: what does it mean today to make art that pushes the boundaries of medium, language, and thought. One work by each recipient is presented — twenty-five points that, viewed together, chart the map of a scene in constant re-examination of itself.

Over its twenty-five years, the Mangelos Award has become a reference point for the contemporary art scene in Serbia. More than 860 applications have been submitted over the life of the competition, 94 artworks have been produced through the award program, and nearly 2,000 figures from the art scene have taken part in various roles — as candidates, finalists, recipients, jury members, curators, critics, and institutional collaborators. Each year, an international expert jury of curators, art historians, and critics from the country and abroad evaluates the submitted practices; over the years its members have included representatives of leading institutions of contemporary art, among them a Deputy Director of MoMA in New York and an Associate Curator of the Guggenheim Museum.
