Emir Šehanović

We are delighted to share that Emir Šehanović, along with Ivan Šuković and Dejan Todorović, has been selected as a recipient of the MicroMacro Award, presented by STRAND (Sustainable Urban Society Association), as part of the organization’s annual On Architecture exhibition, for their work Terram Intelligere: INTERSTITIUM, in the category of science, technology and architecture.

The awarded work, Terram Intelligere: INTERSTITIUM, originally presented as the contribution of the Montenegrin pavilion to the 19th Venice Architecture Biennale, does not treat architecture as a fixed object or national showcase, instead, it unfolds as a living laboratory, a spatial-conceptual inquiry. The project frames “land” not as inert ground or resource, but as an active archive – layered, intelligent, and alive. In constant negotiation with human and non-human systems. By merging biological research, vernacular spatial tradition (the Montenegrin concept of “međa” – dry-stone boundary walls) and ecological imagination, the project proposes architecture as a porous, responsive, multispecies medium, a space of coexistence, transformation and slow attentive being-in-the-world, rather than a monument or a spectacle.

STRAND’s program, held at the Gallery of Science and Technology of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SANU) in Belgrade, is an internationally open platform for architecture, design, art, urbanism, and new media. The MicroMacro Award is given by an international jury to projects that demonstrate excellence across scales, from the detail-oriented “micro” level to broader, conceptual “macro” frameworks.
The prize recognizes outstanding work that bridges the micro–scale of design and the macro–scale of spatial and conceptual thinking.
