Eugster || Belgrade is, for the first time, participating  at miart 2024, with a shared booth with Milan-based gallery eastcontemporary. For this opportunity we are preparing a joint presentation of Julija Zaharijević and Giulia Cretulescu, for which Julija Zaharijević will produce and showcase new works made for the fair. This collaboration seeks to expand the dialogue between two young galleries with a common goal of bridging the gap between eastern and western European art scene.

Julija Zaharijević (b. 1991, Belgrade), is a Vienna-Berlin based artist who deals with questions of reality— what constitutes it, and what takes for it to collapse into abstraction. She is interested in objects with symbolic value and how their visual appearances hint at ways to uncover the basis of their canonization, often rooted in the discourse shaped by the West and/or the patriarchy. She is curious about performativity, optical illusions, history of painting and modernism. Zaharijević works in various media, such as painting, sculpture and text.
Her work has been in solo exhibitions: Modern Painting, Bbberlin, Berlin (2022); solo presentation at viennacontemporary with Eugster || Belgrade (2022); Oh no! The View, Georg Kargl PERMANENT, Vienna (2021); Silver Lane, Alienze, Vienna (2021). Recent group exhibitions include: On the New –Structure, with Tamara Grcić, Eugster || Belgrade (2023), LISTE, Basel with Eugster || Belgrade (2023), Viennese Scenes and Beyond, Belvedere 21, Vienna (2023); hyper (hyper), Callirrhoë, Athens (2022); SYSTEMA, with Pina, Marseille (2022); Burn The Groves, Löwengasse, Cologne (2022); Jahresgaben 2022, Kevin Space, Vienna (2022), among others.
Julija Zaharijević has been selected to partecipate in the BPA //- Berlin Program for Artists’ edition of 2024-2025 and she is currently in the jury’s preselection of the STRABAG Artaward International for 2024.
