We’re pleased to share Šejla Kamerić will present AWAKE, a site-specific public light installation as part of DANUBE DIALOGUES, 2026 on 3rd of september at the Museum of Contemporary Art Vojvodina, Novi Sad.

AWAKE turns the space in front of the Museum into a place reminiscent of a Vigil – a temporary setting for collective reflection that resists certainty and fixed narratives. On Thursday, 3 September visitors are invited to gather and light the candle together and reflect our shared vulnerability.

The theme of Danube Dialogues 202 is Rituals and Rhythms. Reflecting on the core idea that runs through all previous editions of the event — the human being and the humanistic dimension of art — the theme Rituals and Rhythms raises questions about what is uniquely human within us and about the way we create reality, drawing not only on intellect and skill, but also on the capacity to bridge the different dimensions through which beliefs are shaped and take effect.

In this context, rituals are understood as a common denominator — gestures and practices that over the centuries have both brought people together and set them apart. They are not tied solely to religion and tradition, but instead constitute a universal language of repetition, togetherness, and inner transformation. Like the rhythms of breathing or the cycles of nature, rituals signify both continuity and change — a space in which a community affirms itself, yet also calls itself into question.

Like all natural and social processes, art unfolds in rhythms — in repetition and variation, in a constant effort to keep pace with the time that shapes our existence. In the present moment, faced with accelerated technological development, shifting attitudes toward aging and death, the rise of artificial intelligence, and questions of ethical boundaries and the common good, we also confront the need for a new kind of collective and individual reflection.

Art takes on an evolutionary role — to awaken the deepest layers of the human being, to open a space for introspective dialogue and collective awareness.
