Eugster || Belgrade presents a duo show with Marko Obradović and Emir Šehanović.

With a style that’s unique and yet emblematic of his generation, Marko Obradović creates a haunted atmosphere in the viewer of his paintings, yet somehow, the feeling is similar to finding oneself in a mass of others. The general uncertainty that is produced seems to be the one we all share and recognise in the semi- familiar motifs from horror films, myths, popular culture, and perhaps even the nightmares that we sometimes dream together.

Emir Šehanović elicits a similar reaction, the uncanny presence of the unknown, an ‘encounter of the third kind’, through his alien-like sculptures and digital images. Emir is concerned with the post-human and the afterparty of the anthropocene, this time connecting his once-signature ritualistic and the more recent pseudo-scientific aesthetic language.

While they share the genuine interest in the abject and the fearful in humans, the main difference between the two artists lies in the way their works are ‘gentle’ toward the audience. Emir’s works are, oftentimes, too abstract to materialise as one clear message, while Marko’s paintings walk the line between horror and humour, so as to, eventually, embrace you with their quirk.

The booth contains recent and completely new works by both artists: paintings (Marko Obradović) and sculptures (Emir Šehanović).
